Site Rules

Registered Users are respectfully requested to make themselves familiar with these rules.

Music Uploads

Registered users have the ability to upload their own MP3s and to create a profile (including links) for themselves.

Please respect copyrighted music! This service is for players and recording artists to post their own music, and only their own music. Please do not post music that you have not yourself created or participated in.

The Rules:

Music must feature the Native American Flute as a primary instrument. If your song is Country, Rock, R&B, Death Metal, Rap, Classical, Jazz, etc. and has five seconds of flute music thrown in somewhere, then this isn't really the place for it. Solo or ensemble music where the flute is a major element throughout is the sort of thing we're going for, but apart from that the sky is the limit!

The sky is NOT the limit when it comes to bandwidth unfortunately, so there is a three song limit. You may rotate the songs that are featured as often as you like.

Please remember that these songs are meant to be freely shared and listened to, and the Flute Portal takes no responsibility for any copyright issues or misuse of your music that results from making it available to the public on this site.

Please take note of the copyright notice at the top of this page.

The Flute Portal administrator will screen all songs that are posted on the site and reserves the right to deny what he deems inappropriate material. Song lyrics or titles that are in any way inflammatory, prejudcial or extreme in terms of politics or religion (or anything that gets people yelling at each other) will not be accepted. The same goes for any links that are included. We will check every link that is posted to make sure of this.

Free Classified Ads

The classified ad section is for private party use only. This is a place for an individual who has a flute related item (instrument, music, cases, songbooks, or the like) to put them up for sale, or to place a "wanted" ad.

Absolutely no merchant, rep or distributor postings! Please respect this. Any ads that are suspect can be suspended or removed at the site administrators discretion. This is a community service — merchants or craftpeople (including flute makers, accessory makers, musicians, etc.) or those people representing merchants or craftpeople can use e-bay.

These ads have an automatic shelf life. Each ad is alloted an automatic run time of 1 month. The person who posts the ad can remove it before that time if it is no longer current. If an ad is left past 30 days, it will automatically expire and disappear from the ads list. If you want the ad to run longer, simply "refresh" it (re-post it) after the 30 days is up.

Free Flute Circle Pages

This service is primarily to support flute circles who do not have a website of their own, although circles who do have their own sites are welcome to participate.

The free site is a single-page template that allows for limited posting of photos and text. It is really just a bare-bones information site, but it can be freely and easily updated to keep members of your circle current with what is happening. The head of the flute circle (or whichever member is editing the site) must be a registered user, but members of the circle do not have to be registered to access the site. Anyone visiting the Flute Portal can view the flute circle pages.

The overall rules regarding appropriate content apply at all times to all aspects of the flute portal. Nothing obscene, inflammatory or otherwise negative will be tolerated. Please respect everyone who visits this site. As with all features of the site, admin checks the various pages to ensure proper content.

Free Community Events Calendar

Any registered user of the Flute Portal may access the posting feature of the events calendar.

This is where any flute-related event can be announced. Concerts, workshops, gatherings, festivals, etc. are examples of appropriate postings. Times, dates, locations and some limited description of the event can be supplied for public access.

We ask the registered users to be selective about how far in advance they post. Leaving an announcement up for six months before an event is going to crowd the bulletin board a bit. In some cases, an advanced notice will be needed, but if it is not necessary then please be judicious about the length of the post. User discretion acceptable — we won't be "policing" this board for much beyond inappropriate content.
