Oregon Flute Circle
Description
Our Circle was the first ever flute circle. We started meeting in 1993. Co-founders Sherrie Kuhl, Jeff Calavan, Ted Calavan, and Betty White selected a name, designed a logo, and wrote a creed for their Circle in the first three months of meeting in the tepee in Jeff's back yard and we have been going strong ever since.
More Information
In Volume 3, 1997 of INAFA's Voice of the Wind, Sherrie Kuhl wrote an article called "The Story of the Oregon Flute Circle." It covered what happened their first and second and third years of meetings and listed their flute events scheduled for the 1997 summer. Also 1997 was the first year that Jeff Calavan's Laughting Malard flute case business evolved into the Oregon Flute Store, the only store of its kind at the time. See the article in Volume 4, 1997, titled "Birth of the Oregon Flute Quiver" by Sherrie Kuhl. And in Volume 2, 1999, at the request of Kathleen Joyce-Grendahl, Sherre wrote an article titled "How to Start a Flute Circle: Advice for the Flutelorn" to help out all the fluties who were wishing they had a flute circle in their own local area.
