Windtalker Music

Native SoundScapes
by Randy "Windtalker" Motz

Inspiration comes from so many places. It can come from the briefest moment in time or the most seemingly insignificant experience. It can blossom from the relationships we cherish and also from the range of emotions that flow through our souls. The inspiration for this CD began with a Robert Mirabal concert where the intricate blending of Native flute and contemporary instruments captured my imagination and ignited my passion to write music. The songs on this album are inspired by a range of my experiences, emotions and an ongoing maturation of faith. From my wife’s and my 2006 thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, came “Mysterium Tremendum” and “Katahdin”; they express the majesty and splendor of the natural wonders at our feet each day. Others, such as “Trail of Tears” and “Prayer for the Nations”, are a tribute to the Native Americans who lived, suffered and died on many of the mountain trails that we traveled. Still others, like “Hallelujah” and “So Amazed” are mere expressions of the awe and wonder I experience as my relationship with the Maker of All Creation matures. Finally, there is “Eternity” (Georgia’s Song) that springs from the intimate and enduring relationship I have with my wife, “Summer Day”, that communicates the beauty of the season and “Windtalker”, which rekindles the spirit of the Native American and his sacred communication with The Creator of Life. Using this varied inspirational pallette, are painted “Native SoundScapes”. On this musical canvas are songs that I hope will calm and inspire as well as provide an opportunity to reflect on those inspirations that make your life unique and full.
